Tina Knowles appears to have responded, albeit not directly, to remarks from the artist formerly known as Kanye West about Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s children. As you may have seen, the remarks in question were seemingly removed from X by Ye earlier this week, although only temporarily. As of this writing, no version of the statement remained visible on Ye’s account.
Knowles, mother to Beyoncé and Solange, told fans in a video shared to Instagram Wednesday that she had decided to tell a “corny joke” while in the middle of a photo shoot for her book, Matriarch.
“What happens when a snowman throws a tantrum?” she asked in the video, as seen below. “He has a meltdown. Y’all know that’s funny.”
When sharing the video, Knowles mentioned a “battle” that is not her own in the caption.
“It’s hard to remain positive and classy in the face of ignorance and evil,” she wrote. “But I know that no weapon formed against me or my family shall prosper. This battle is not mine, but the Lord’s. I know that God has got this.”
In an update to X that arrived amid a slew of inflammatory remarks, Ye asked, “Wait, has anyone ever seen Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s younger kids?” before using the R-word to describe the children.
When initially removing the post, Ye said he did so “not because I’m a good person” but because he feared losing his access to the platform. Elsewhere, Ye said he’s “always felt like the black sheep” and pointed to several instances in which he felt personally slighted by Jay.
“Shit hurts so fuck both of them,” he said.
Ye has since alleged that he was “asked to go to the hospital,” later referencing a private mental health care program that—according to its website, at least—is “not operating in California at this time.”
As for Knowles, she last appeared in the news cycle alongside Ye thanks to a The Game-led song he previewed on social media in February, tentatively titled “Tina.” The track, as we reported at the time, was claimed to have began with Game sending a banana emoji DM to Knowles. The song sampled Knowles’ Jennifer Hudson Show walkout and was quickly given a Blair Witch-esque video.
