Teyana Taylor and her legal team are accusing Iman Shumpert of leaking sealed documents regarding their divorce, and as a result, she wants him locked up for contempt.
According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Taylor has claimed she’s been subject to online scrutiny and hate speech due to misleading reports about the assets she received in her divorce from Shumpert. Taylor accuses Shump of leaking erroneous information including that she was awarded several properties, vehicles, a tour bus, and more.
Taylor explained there was no settlement as she and Shump were given what was awarded to them by a judge. She also said she paid for the cars and tour bus that was given to her while also adding that her ex-husband walked away with three properties, including one that was a gift for her.
In addition to clearing up the court settlement, Taylor highlighted that it’s not a coincidence that a story about a “false divorce settlement” took hold as her career was reaching new heights. Taylor alo alleged that the settlement story was published when Shump released a new song, implying her ex was using their divorce for promo.
Taylor claimed she’s been subject to online hate while Shump has been using their marital issues for his own benefit. Because of that, Taylor and her team want a judge to hold her ex in contempt of court and put him in jail for 20 days, along with giving him maximum fines for allegedly leaking the information about their divorce.
Shumpert’s lawyer released a statement denying the accusations. “My client, Mr. Iman Shumpert, has never whatsoever leaked any allegations or claims stated in any of the pleadings in the Taylor/Shumpert divorce case,” the statement reads. “Mr. Shumpert adamantly denies that he has provided any information to any media. Specifically, but without limitations, he denies that he leaked any information which may have served as the basis for the multiple news reports preceding the trial of this matter.”
The divorce was settled back in July 2024, but several blogs inaccurately reported it was finalized this week. Taylor’s mother and manager, Nikki Taylor, released a statement questioning how the settlement was making headlines just now.
“It’s awful strange that the case is sealed, from a divorce that was finalized in July 1, 2024; but all of this information as to what she allegedly got is public this week?” Taylor said in a statement. “What about the other party received? Let’s be crystal clear, BOTH parties walked with the properties, vehicles and businesses that they obtained separately.”
She continued just hours later on Instagram: “Bottom line is, this case is sealed. Therefore, information like this can only be put out there from either of the parties involved. Weirdly, this information just surfaced out of nowhere almost a year later after the divorce has been finalized since July 1, 2024. The bottom line is, the only thing awarded to both parties was what they paid for out of their own pockets. She walked with what she paid for on her own and he walked with what he paid for. That’s it, that’s all. I hope this is clear now. End of report.”
