The Pancreatic Cancer Network announced the lineup of celebrities who will lend their voices to this year’s PanCAN PurpleStride, the ultimate walk to end pancreatic cancer. PurpleStride will take place nationwide in nearly 60 communities on April 26, 2025, bringing together survivors, supporters, celebrities, and special guests to raise awareness and critical funds for pancreatic cancer—one of the world’s deadliest diseases.
Days of our Lives stars Martha Madison (Belle Black) and Eric Martsolf (Brady Black) will honor their late co-star and on-screen father Drake Hogestyn (John Black) and will take part in PurpleStride Los Angeles. The duo formed a PurpleStride team “Hogey’s Home Runners” in his honor.
Martha Madison shared, “Drake was the most energetic, optimistic and compassionate man in Salem, and we know he would want us to focus on joy, togetherness and fun as we move toward a future devoid of pancreatic cancer. So, with a heart full of Drake’s team spirit and a crew full of Salem’s most familiar faces, we invite you to join in our first-ever PurpleStride team walk in Los Angeles on April 26th! We’d love to see you there!”

Joining Martha and Eric in the walk in Los Angeles will be: Cast members from Star Trek, including Kitty Swink, Armin Shimerman, Jonathan Frakes (husband to General Hospital’s Genie Francis), John Billingsley, and TV writer-producer Juan Carlos Coto, who lost his brother, Star Trek Enterprise executive producer Manny Coto to the disease, along with Eric idle, Lisa Swayze, who lost her beloved husband Patrick Swayze to pancreatic cancer. It should be noted that Lisa will cut the ribbon at the start of the PurpleStride Los Angeles event. Martha and Eric will talk about the event and share more details, when they visit The Locher Room beginning at 7:30pm ET/4:30pm PT on Thursday night, March 20th.
From coast to coast and across the television spectrum, notable figures will join the fight. The Golden Bachelorette lead, Joan Vassos will be a featured speaker at PurpleStride Washington D.C. She will be participating in honor of her late husband John who passed away from the disease in 2021 with her team ItsJustaSprain.

Vassos expressed, “When John was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he approached his diagnosis with the same hopeful spirit…’it’s just a sprain.’” There was no way he was going to be taken out of the game. But all the visits to our local oncologists, the trips to MD Anderson in Houston, the unending rounds of chemo, and the multiple radiation treatments just weren’t enough to keep John in the game. He passed away after almost 2 years of fighting this horrible disease. Our family is so grateful to finally have a way to honor John’s memory in a way that would have been meaningful to him–by helping others. Please join us in keeping John’s memory alive!”
Pancreatic cancer remains the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States and is on track to become the second leading cause. It is the only major cancer with a five-year survival rate below 20%. Because symptoms are often vague and mimic other illnesses or conditions, most patients are diagnosed in the late stages of the disease. Finding a pancreatic tumor early, when it can be surgically removed, is critical for survival. There is no standard screening strategy for pancreatic cancer, highlighting the urgent need for increased research, funding and awareness to improve patient outcomes.

Notable individuals who have succumbed to pancreatic cancer in recent years include Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek, talk show host Jerry Springer, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, producer Quincy Jones and U.S. Representative John Lewis, to name a few.

The stage is set for “Who Shot EJ?” and you can line up most everyone in Salem by this point who could ultimately turn out to be the suspect in the upcoming shooting.
However, before we get to that, we got the showdown between EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and his son, Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) who is reeling from learning he is the product of rape, when years ago EJ made Sami (Alison Sweeney) have sex with him in order for him to agree to help a trapped Lucas (Bryan Dattilo).
On the Monday, March 17th episode of Days of our Lives, Johnny comes barreling into the DiMera mansion, and punches EJ in the face after learning about how he came to be from Kate (Lauren Koslow) and company. Chanel (Raven Bowens) is also at the mansion and listens and watches as Johnny reveals the to the entire sad story.
Photo: JPI
Johnny goes into detail on the backstory on how his father raped Sami. As tears stream down his face, Johnny says his mother must have disassociated the whole thing as rape victims do from the trauma of it all. Johnny says he only exists because a monster violated an innocent woman. EJ adds more context for what happened for Johnny. He says Stefano pressured him as he was dying and thought a baby’s stem cells could provide the cure to keeping him alive. EJ begs his son to believe Stefano asked him to do what he did; but Johnny isn’t having any of it.
Emotionally overwrought, Johnny says Sami was used to save Stefano and so was he. Johnny snarls “You never wanted me! You wanted to harvest my stem cells!” He realizes that no matter how far he runs he will always be the product of EJ’s constant need for power. With that, Johnny says he and Chanel will have nothing to do with the DiMera legacy, which is violent and full of cruelty.
Photo: JPI
EJ says as regretful as he is about the act against his mother, if that never happened Johnny would not exist. With tears in his eyes, EJ tells his son he loves him more than anything and begs him for a chance to be forgiven as Chanel looks on with tears streaming down her face. Johnny says he will never forgive his father and to leave and get out of his sight. Once EJ exits, Johnny tells his Chanel how much he hates his father and would kill him if he had a gun. Outside in the entrance way of the mansion, EJ stumbles trying to go up the stairs and breaks down in tears.
The episode featured a touching performance from Carson Boatman, who shared with Soap Opera Digest on the big moment, “It’s life-altering to find out that the only reason you’re in existence is because your dad raped your mom. I mean, that will mess with your head. It was really fun and really challenging to play. I think I grew as an actor doing that storyline, because it took so much emotionally. There’s a lot of anger, a lot of hurt and pain. It’s an actor’s dream to get to go in there, really do the hard work, and put up, hopefully, some moving performances. It was just a really fun opportunity to learn and grow as an actor.”

So, what did you think of the scenes between Johnny and EJ? Did you enjoy the performances of Carson Boatman and Dan Feuerriegel ? Do you think once EJ is shot, Johnny will now be the prime suspect, but won’t be the one who pull the trigger? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section.
