LIST: North Texas schools announce delayed starts amid severe storms

DALLAS — North Texans woke up to high winds and severe storms moving through the Metroplex early Tuesday morning. The severe weather prompted a WFAA Weather Alert Day, and a tornado watch was issued for most of North Texas until 11 a.m. 

The storms caused some districts and schools to delay the start of school and bus routes while the storm moved through the area.

Plano ISD expects transportation delays and urged parents and students to use caution when driving to school. Parents can monitor bus delays of 30 minutes or more at www.pisd.edu/latebus

Community ISD will be delayed by an hour and a half Tuesday. Buses will also begin their routes an hour and a half later than normal, the district said. Schools will dismiss at their normal time. 

Garland ISD announced it will hold all buses until the storm passes and parents should expect delays. Parents can check the StopFinder app for more information on their child’s bus. The school districts will provide updates when more information is available. 

The Lamplighter School said it will implement a delayed start Tuesday. The school will open for students at 9 a.m., staff are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m., according to the school’s website. 

Kaufman ISD said it will be on a two-hour delayed start due to fallen trees and impassable roads. Bus routes will run two hours after their normal scheduled start time, the district said in a social media post. The district will follow a normal schedule for dismissal, the district said. 

Arlington ISD said its buses will be delayed until the storm passes Tuesday morning. By 6:45 a.m. buses were running to pick up students, the district said. 

Legacy Preparatory Academy will delay its start until 9:30 a.m., the school said Tuesday morning. Staff is expected to arrive at 9 a.m. and students should arrive at 9:30 a.m.

Everman ISD is not delayed however a detour route has been set up on Everman Parkway due to a road closure. The detour will impact traffic to Everman Highschool and students should expect delays, according to Everman Emergency Services.
