LeBron James holds the NBA record for most points in both the regular season and the playoffs.
Lakers star LeBron James pushed his combined career scoring total past 50,000 points with a first-quarter 3-pointer in Tuesday’s game against New Orleans, becoming the first NBA player to ever reach that threshold.
James, 40, holds the NBA record for most points in both the regular season (41,840 and counting) and playoffs (8,162). His combined total is nearly 6,000 points ahead of Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who amassed 44,149 during his 20 NBA seasons.
But in contrast to Abdul-Jabbar, whose scoring output dropped significantly over his final seasons, James is still going strong, averaging 24.8 points per game entering Tuesday’s action to rank 13th in the NBA.
James averaged 29.3 points in February to earn Western Conference Player of the Month, the oldest player to do so and the 47th time in his career he’s won a monthly award.
