The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly considering reuniting new coach Pete Carroll with a former player of his as they search for a new No. 1 wide receiver.
ESPN has reported that the Raiders are among the teams that have talked about a deal for wide receiver DK Metcalf. He is seeking a trade and the Seahawks are planning to give him his wish.
The Seahawks are reportedly talking to several teams and they reportedly are currently seeking a first and third-round pick for Metcalf. They reportedly want to get a deal done by the April 24-26 NFL draft. Metcalf also is seeking a contract extension as part of a trade. He reportedly wants to play in warm-weather city and with a franchise with a settled a quarterback situation. The Raiders are trying to figure that part out.
The Raiders reportedly want a No. 1 receiver to pair with Jakobi Meyers. Metcalf, who turns 28 in December, would fit that role. Metcalf, who Carroll and the Seahawks drafted in the second round in 2019, has, at least, 900 receiving yards in all six of his NFL seasons. He had 66 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns in 15 games in 2024.
Metcalf isn’t the only former Carroll Seattle wide receiver who the team has been connected to. The Seahawks cut Tyler Lockett this week and he was immediately connected to Carroll and the Raiders. He is free to sign immediately.
Lockett, who turns 33 in September, has been one of the NFL’s best producing wide receivers over the past decade. He has 661 career catches in NFL 10 seasons, nine with Carroll as his head coach.
Lockett, a third-round pick out of Kansas State, is a gritty, tough competitor who is known for being a leader and great locker-room presence. In addition to the Raiders’ needs on the field, Carroll will likely want Lockett to come to Las Vegas to help build the culture he is seeking to establish in Las Vegas.
Reportedly, the Seahawks remain interested in re-signing Lockett.
There are several wide receivers who could fit the Raiders in addition to Lockett and Metcalf and former Raider Davante Adams being cut this week. Free agents, Chris Godwin and Keenan Allen also have ties to he Raiders’ new regime.
But it’s clear, Carroll is, at least, thinking about a Metcalf trade.
